This is a message given to all new users:
This system is setup mainly for the use of sharing information and
public domain software. Only IBM PC users will be granted upload/down-
load privlages, but users from all computers can use the message base.
Trs-80 color computers also have a special section and file area. Leave
me a comment if you wish to have access to the coco section. To all of
the color computer users who have thoughts about usiong the color or ascii
graphics on this bbs: DONT!!!! the graphics only work on IBM or
compatibles.
Due to space considerations, most of the files will be stored in arc
files. Arc is a utility used to squeze files so that they take up less
space and is in one of the download directories in case you want to use
it. You can upload any files that you wan't, I will convert them to arc
if it is necessary. Trs-80 color computers dont have an arc command so
your files will be stored the way you upload them.
I do not allow false names on this system. This is a rule that is
strictly enforced. This includes all C.B. handles, etc.
If you wish to contact me then
1) leave a comment to me - I will try to get back to you the next day
2) write me a message
3) page me with the operator command. During the day, I am probably
at school so you cannot get in touch with me, but sometimes you
might be able to contact me at night.
4) Call me at my VOICE number (577-3515).
This bbs is up 24 hours a day. Please feel free to call at any time.
Some newuser information about the system
-----------------------------------------
1. The bbs is divided into 4 main section.
Main - The main menu. Misc. options are found here.
Utilities - Allows you to view your profile, change graphics,
change you password, etc.
Files - File transfer section.
Messages - Electronic mail
2. There is also an extensive "conference" section. The conferences allow
users to access areas setup up for specific subjects. To get into a
conference, you need to use the (C)onference command at the main menu.
Once you are in a conference, the (B)ulletins, (W)elcome, (F)iles, and
(U)tilities commands are modified for use with that confernece. To get
back to the main area, switch to conference number 99.
3. The post ratio - This is a way to keep up activity in the message base.
All users are required to keep a certain "post ratio". It is the ratio
of how many messages you post to how many times you call. To get into
the files section, your ratio needs to be at least 15. To increase your
ratio, it is simple - just post messages!
4. The upload ratio - This ratio is the number of files you upload divided
by the number of files you download. It is used to keep users from down-
loading all the time and never uploading. To raise it, just upload a
file.
5. Doors - There are lots of door programs available to the system through
the (D)oors command at the main menu. A door is simply a non-bbs related
program which you can run. Some of the ones on the system are Trivia,
vote, battleship, blackjack, etc.
6. Help - The help command is available from all major areas. When you
invoke the help command, a text file with information about the area
you are currently in will be displayed.
Thats it for the newuser stuff. Have a good time and please call again.
